Naissance du Lion
The history of the lion began in 1847, when Jules and Emile Peugeot commissioned Justin Blazer, a Montbéliard goldsmith and engraver, to design a "logo" to be used as a trademark on the tools they produced, beginning with their saws. The two brothers had very firm ideas on the subject. They asked Justin Blazer to design a lion (already present on the county coat of arms) to symbolise the three main qualities of Peugeot blades: the strength of the teeth, like the lion's, the suppleness of the blade, like the lion's back, and the speed with which they cut: with the rapidity of a lion as it springs into action, Justin Blazer submitted many designs and they chose the profile of a lion walking along an arrow.
